Microsoft
Word Music Project
Take
a look at an example of the entire project.
Project:
Students will research one of the following musical artists/groups of the 1950's
or 1960's. Students will write a biography of the artist or group of their
choice, a list of 10 songs, lyrics to their favorite song, pictures of that
artist and/or albums, and a letter written to that artist.

Page 1: Title Page

- Page Border
- An Image
- Your Full name
- Class Title (Introduction to Computers)
- Project Title

- Period Number
- Each item above should be on its own line
- Use Word Art only for the Project title
- Change your margins to 1.0" for the
top, bottom, left and right
- Center align vertically everything on this
page using spacing or whatever means you think best.
- Insert a Page break at the end of this page

Page 2: Table
of Contents (Bookmarks and Hyperlinks)

- Include an
appropriate title aligned in the center of the page
- Include a
border, not a page border, at the top of the page just underneath the title
- Move back
up to the cover page and set the Page
border so that the APPLY
TO section is set to "This
Section - first page only"
- Insert the
name of every page that will be in the Document beginning with the Cover
Page.
- Set and use
tab stop positions to help format the page.
- Finish this
page after you have created the rest of the document. Insert a Page break so
that you can begin Page 3.
- Insert a
bookmark on every page so that you can create hyperlinks to them. See the Table

hyperlink to each page in this document. See the Table

Page 3: The Biography Page. (You must
use proper MLA format for any web site and any quote that you include while
researching this page).

- Include an appropriate title aligned in the
center of the page (do not use Word art)
- Include a border, not a page border, at the
top of the page just underneath the title
- Use font size 12 for the body text - Arial
Font style
- Should include images of the artist or
athlete no larger than 1.5" x 1.5"
- Should be at least one full page. The
text needs to be one page in length NOT including the images. (Images
ca be put on a separate page).
- Justify Align all of the text in the
biography. Do not include the Title of the page when doing this.
- At the end of the biography, insert a page
break.
- Create a Drop Cap for the first letter of
the first word in the your biography. Set the Drop Cap to span 3
lines.
- Go to File > Properties > Summary
Tab > Author: Type your full
name
- What information to include in this page:
- Paragraph #1: Give a brief
summary of the life and career highlights of the person(s) that you
chose.
- Paragraph #2: In your
opinion, what was their biggest achievement? Why do you think
this?
- Paragraph #3: What
surprised you the most about this person (something that you did not
know about them)?
- Paragraph #4: If you could,
would you want to be this person? Why or why not? Everyone
has good things and bad things happen to them. Discuss how the
positive and
negative things this person has been exposed to would be fun and not fun
for you. Basically, describe how you would have felt if faced with
the same situations as this person.
- Paragraph #5: Conclude with
what is the biggest thing about life that you have learned from this
person's life.
DO THIS LAST: Then you need to put ONLY
this page into two columns. To do this, Select all of the Biography text (do not
select any extra text lines on this page, the title of the biography or the
border at the top of the page.
Then go to Format, click columns, select 2
columns, make sure the "Apply to" arrow says "Selected
Text", then click OK.
Now, move your cursor so that it is blinking
somewhere in the two columns and change your margins to the following:
Top: 0.75" Bottom: 0.75 Right: 0.6" Left:
0.6" and click OK.

Specific Requirements for the following
pages:
- Move your cursor to Page 2 of your document
and open the header and footer.
- Header - Your name should be placed
on the left side of the header - Font size 8
- Footer - Place the Project name
("Microsoft Word Music Project") on the left, the page number in
the center and date on the right side of the footer - Font Size 8
- You may need to click on the "Same
as Previous" icon on the Header and footer toolbar so that the your
header will not be the same as it is on the first page.
- Set your Header and Footer so that they
do not show on the first page - Go to File/Page setup/layout/different First
Page
Page 4:
The Songs, Grammies, Academy Awards,
Athletic Awards Page (You
must use proper MLA format for any web site and any quote that you include while
researching this page).

- Create a one column, 11 row table.
- Use an appropriate Heading for the
table. Center the title of the table in row 1.
- Select 10 songs, Movies, Athletic awards and
achievements from that individual and insert them into a table.
- Sort the column alphabetically
Align the contents of the cells in the center both
vertically and horizontally
Use shading (Make sure it is a light color
so that the text is easy to read)
Change the border widths, style and color
for the table
Two spaces below the table or on a separate
page, center the title of your favorite song, list of movies, or list of
participating athletic events. Do not include this in your table.
If you are writing your project on a musical
artist, then below the title, insert the lyrics to the song.
If you are writing your project on an Actor,
then list the awards they have been nominated for and also won.
If you are writing your project on an athlete,
then list the schools and teams with which that person has played beginning
with High School.

Page 5: The
Letter
- Each of you will write your own letter to
the artist or group (Use the letter
format discussed in class. DO NOT change the format of the letter.)
- The letter should include:
- A little bit about yourselves and why you
chose that artist
- A formatted list (Numbered or Bulleted)
of the top five songs or awards of that artist or athlete listed
alphabetically
- One question you would like to ask that
individual if you had the chance to meet them
- Don't forget to include the watermark - A
watermark is an image that has its wrapping set to "Behind Text"
and its color is adjusted so that it is very light in color and barely
seen.

- Find a minimum of 6 images related to your
artist or athlete and put together a "Gallery" of images that
represent that person's life. Make sure to include the web address
from you gathered those images in your "Works-Cited Page".
- Create a caption using a text box for each
image.

- Proper Heading - DO NOT use Word Art
- Listing of all the web addresses, using
proper MLA format, that were used to gather your information, images and
anything else used for your report.
- You should have a minimum of 3 references
listed.
- See the example below for proper MLA format
of these web resources.
- Use your Hanging Indent to indent the second
line of the bibliographic entry. (Select the entry/go to
Format/paragraph/click on the "Special" box and select
"Hanging")
- Sort each entry so that they are in
alphabetical order. Use the sort feature to do this.
If you cannot find
the Author's name or it is not listed, then begin the MLA Reference with the
Title of the Web Site. You completely leave out the Author of the Website.
