Project:
Students will research one of the following musical artists/groups of the 1950's or 1960's. Students will write a biography of the artist or group of their choice, a list of 10 songs, lyrics to their favorite song, pictures of that artist and/or albums, and a letter written to that artist.

See an Example

  1. Include an appropriate title aligned in the center of the page
  2. Include a border, not a page border, at the top of the page just underneath the title
  3. Move back up to the cover page and set the Page border so that the APPLY TO section is set to "This Section - first page only"
  4. Insert the name of every page that will be in the Document beginning with the Cover Page.
  5. Set and use tab stop positions to help format the page.
  6. Finish this page after you have created the rest of the document. Insert a Page break so that you can begin Page 3.
  7. Insert a bookmark on every page so that you can create hyperlinks to them. See the Table of Contents lesson for help
  8. Insert a hyperlink to each page in this document. See the Table of Contents lesson for help

Page 3: The Biography Page. (You must use proper MLA format for any web site and any quote that you include while researching this page).

DO THIS LAST: Then you need to put ONLY this page into two columns. To do this, Select all of the Biography text (do not select any extra text lines on this page, the title of the biography or the border at the top of the page.

Then go to Format, click columns, select 2 columns, make sure the "Apply to" arrow says "Selected Text", then click OK.

Now, move your cursor so that it is blinking somewhere in the two columns and change your margins to the following: 
Top:
0.75" Bottom: 0.75 Right: 0.6" Left: 0.6" and click OK.

Specific Requirements for the following pages:

  1. Move your cursor to Page 2 of your document and open the header and footer.
  2. Header - Your name should be placed on the left side of the header - Font size 8
  3. Footer - Place the Project name ("Microsoft Word Music Project") on the left, the page number in the center and date on the right side of the footer - Font Size 8
  4. You may need to click on the "Same as Previous" icon on the Header and footer toolbar so that the your header will not be the same as it is on the first page.
  5. Set your Header and Footer so that they do not show on the first page - Go to File/Page setup/layout/different First Page

Page 5: The Letter
 

  1. A little bit about yourselves and why you chose that artist
  2. A formatted list (Numbered or Bulleted) of the top five songs or awards of that artist or athlete listed alphabetically
  3. One question you would like to ask that individual if you had the chance to meet them
  4. Don't forget to include the watermark - A watermark is an image that has its wrapping set to "Behind Text" and its color is adjusted so that it is very light in color and barely seen.

If you cannot find the Author's name or it is not listed, then begin the MLA Reference with the Title of the Web Site.  You completely leave out the Author of the Website.
